Poster Contest Rules
- The contest is open to all K through 4th graders in St. Louis city and county schools.
- All posters from each school may be sent together. Posters may be mailed or hand-delivered during business hours (9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) to: Missouri Poison Center, 7980 Clayton Road, St. Louis, MO 63117.
- Poster entry must be received by Friday, February 26, 2016.
- Winners will be announced on March 10, 2016.
- Student’s name, grade level and school must be printed or labeled on the back of each poster (please make sure this does not bleed through the poster).
- There is no designated theme this year. You may build off of an old theme, or choose to create something completely new! Old themes include: Know the number 1-800-222-1222 / Children Act Fast, So Do Poisons / Lock up Poisons / Safe Dosage and Safe Storage of Medicine. Themes can also come from the teacher’s lesson guide.
- Entries can illustrate a message that communicates that poisonings can happen to people of any age including babies, children, adults and the elderly.
- Entries should be no larger than 11” X 17”. Use big letters and keep drawings simple. Any medium may be used. More tips for creating a winning poster:
- Use bright, bold, contrasting colors.
- Double check your spelling! Commonly misspelled words: medicine, caution, alcohol, poison, health, liquid, safety, Hotline: 1-800-222-1222
- One poster will be selected as the overall Grand Prize Winner. Five posters (one winner from each grade level) will be selected as 1st Place Winners.
- The Grand Prize Winner will receive a one-year family membership to The Magic House-St. Louis Children’s Museum, a Pizza party for his/her class, Mr. Yuk t-shirt and a surprise goodie bag.
- The five 1st Place Winners will receive a Ted Drewes Frozen Custard party for his/her class, a Mr. Yuk t-shirt and a surprise goodie bag.
- ALL entries will receive a gift.
- The winners will be invited to an Awards Ceremony at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital on March 16, 2016.
- The winning posters will be displayed at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital during Poison Prevention Week, March 20 – 26, 2016.
