Possible Symptoms

  • Bad taste in the mouth
  • Minor upset stomach

What to Do

  1. Wipe or rinse out the mouth.
  2. Give a serving size of water to drink.
  3. Call 1-800-222-1222 for additional instructions.

Teething rings with water inside can have contamination with bacteria. This is usually from very old teething rings or those made outside of the United States. Avoid this by using teething rings that have been purchased recently, check to make sure they are made in the United States or opt for solid teething rings instead.

Additional Information

Quick Facts About Teething Rings:

If your child has bitten into a liquid-filled teething ring and problems start or you have questions, call the Missouri Poison Center right away at 1-800-222-1222.  The poison center is open all day, every day for poisoning emergencies and questions, too.

Note of Caution:

There have been cases in the past where the water inside the teething ring was contaminated with bacteria. However, this is usually from very old teething products or those made outside of the United States. Avoid this potential problem by using teething products that have been purchased recently and check to make sure they are made in the United States.

Furthermore, avoid buying liquid-filled teething products; soft, solid rings work just as well. Also, the fewer decorations on the ring such as nubs and beads, the better.  These small pieces can break off and pose a choking risk.
