Additional Information

Play foam is really tiny polystyrene (a type of plastic) balls that stick together. Kids can press, stretch, and shape for hours of creative fun. Kinetic sand is similar – moldable, non-toxic, and easy to clean up after play. Play sand is a mix of regular sand and silicone to mimic wet sand.

Slime, sometimes called flubber, is the basic goop made with household products, borax, white school glue, and water. If a child swallows it in small amounts, slime doesn’t usually cause any symptoms. However, with prolonged use or in large amounts, it does have the potential to be harmful. The problem is some brands of play slime include borax. So, before purchasing, we recommend checking the label of any slime product and having your children wash their hands with soap and water after use.

If you notice that your child ingests some of these products, it is important not to panic. Take the product away from the child and wipe their mouth out with a soft wet cloth. You may give them some water to drink to get the taste out of their mouth. Do not try to induce vomiting.

After you remove your child from the situation, immediately call the Missouri Poison Center at 1-800-222-1222. Treatment recommendations are often determined by the amount ingested. The poison center is open all day, every day, for poisoning emergencies and questions, and our team of medical professionals will help you through the next steps.
