Gas Drops

Over-the-counter gas drops usually contain simethicone, which treats the discomfort associated with excess gas. It helps relieve the painful pressure by breaking up gas bubbles in the stomach and intestines. It can be used in infants, children, and adults. Babies frequently swallow extra air during feedings which leads to discomfort after the feeding, therefore gas drops are often marketed towards infants. Check with your pediatrician before using this product for your infant since there could be other medical issues that are causing the discomfort.

Toddler-aged children get into gas drops because they are often stored in an easily reached diaper bag. If you find your child drinking from the bottle, do not panic. Take the bottle away from them, wipe out the mouth with a soft, wet cloth, and give them some water to drink. Symptoms are not expected, but if problems start or you have questions, call the Missouri Poison Center right away at 1-800-222-1222. The poison center is open all day, every day for poisoning emergencies and questions.
