Additional Information

Quick Facts about cut flower food:

If you’ve bought or received flowers, you’ve likely come across Floralife®, a product that is meant to keep cut flowers fresh. This small package of white powder is certified non-toxic, but it is still not intended for ingestion.

Cut flower food, sometimes produced under brand names like Floralife® or Chrysal, contains primarily sugars. But they’re not the kind of sugar you’d want to eat. Some products might also contain very small amounts of citric acid or bleach.

While consumption of these products should not cause any health problems, they should still be kept out of children’s reach. If one of these products is ingested, it can potentially cause a bad taste or gagging.

If you notice that your child has ingested cut flower food, it is important not to panic. Most children may react to the taste of this product, and may cough or gag. Take the package away from the child and wipe their mouth out with a soft wet cloth. You may give them some water to drink to get the taste out of their mouth. Do not try to induce vomiting.

After you have removed your child from the situation, immediately call the Missouri Poison Center right away at 1-800-222-1222. Treatment recommendations are often determined by the amount ingested. The poison center is open all day, every day for poisoning emergencies and questions and our team of medical professionals will help to walk you through the next steps.
