Quick Facts about crayons:

If you are looking for the answer to “what do I do if my child ate a crayon?” … you’ve come to the right place! Crayons are made of a paraffin wax which has been heated and then cooled. Dye is added to make them different colors. For as long as children have been coloring with crayons, they have also been taking bites from them too. The amount of dye in a bite or two of a crayon is minimal, and stomach irritation is not likely. The paraffin wax base may have a mild laxative effect as it passes thru the system resulting in loose stools or diarrhea.

If you find your child has taken a bite of a crayon, do not panic. Take the crayon away from them, wipe out the mouth with a soft, wet cloth and give them some water to drink.
