Holiday Safety Tips, Presented by SSM Health
Decorations
Move breakable ornaments out of reach and keep metal hooks towards the top of the tree. Use safe ornaments on the lower section of the tree.
Holiday Plants
Poisonous plants should be kept away from children and pets. These plants include: mistletoe, berries, holly berry, and Jerusalem Cherry. In a poison emergency, call the national Poison Center at 1-800-222-1222.
Button Batteries
Many toys and Holiday cards contain small pieces including button batteries. These pose not only a choking hazard but also could cause more serious damage if ingested.
Holiday Leftovers
Clean up any food quickly. Some food may spoil and cause food poisoning, not to mention cause a choking hazard for small children.
Childproofing
Keep an eye out for unlocked cabinets, unattended purses, cleaning supplies, stairs, or hot objects.
